Dr. Yogesh and Dr Sanjay Awasthi, a father and son combination at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth have discovered a signaling protein within human cells,  RLIP 76, that has the ability to control the activation of the cancer process.  By enzymatically controlling the RLIP 76 protein,  Dr. Yogesh and Sanjay Awasthi have discovered a method to inactivate the cancer process and the cancer cells die.  The results from animal studies have been outstanding.   They are now looking for money to do human clinical studies on what is probably America’s premier biological approach to cancer.

Proton Beam Therapy, a form of Veritable Energy Medicine, is already delivering outstanding results in prostate cancer and brain tumors and is being developed into an affordable therapy at MIT in Boston.  Proton Beam Therapy would be available to the Stowe Foundation and could be installed in Fort Worth at any one of the existing radiation centers. Robotic Surgery, which is already available at JPS in Fort Worth, is used to treat kidney cancer and prostate cancer to remove tumors.  The use of a pancreatic cancer vaccine to target the immune system onto the pancreatic tumor, already approved for use in human clinical trials in the US and an approved medication in Germany, when combined with the signaling protein RLIP 76 from UNT could easily be the answer for pancreatic cancer.

The combined modalities would far exceed the therapy my mother received in 2000 to put her pancreatic cancer into remission. In early 2000, Edith Stowe under went radiation therapy for six weeks to debulk a 9 cm tumor at the head of the pancreas and a stent placement to keep the biliary duct open. The pancreatic tumor was sensitized to the effects of the radiation using a low dose of 5-FU.  Following the radiation therapy, Edith Stowe underwent 9 months of comprehensive immune therapy (Applied BioLogics) highlighted by an experimental autologous cancer vaccine from Germany to put her pancreatic cancer into complete remission. The Stowe Foundation is the only medical research foundation and public charity promoting the combination of therapies. The Stowe Foundation firmly believes that the combination of therapies will provide the quantum leap forward required to defeat pancreatic cancer.  Once the cancer is eliminated, the Stowe Foundation believes that the pancreas can be restored to full function using stem cell based healing.

The Stowe Foundation is proposing a series of outcome based studies on pancreatic cancer using:
1. Robotic Surgery to remove tumors
2. Proton Beam Therapy to energetically destroy tumors
3. A Pancreatic Cancer Vaccine to target the immune system to kill tumors
4. Biological Response Modifiers to program the immune system to attack the tumors
5. RLIP 76 signaling proteins to disrupt the cancer process.
6. Bone Marrow Stem Cells to restore pancreatic function

1. Robotic Surgery replaces the Whipple Procedure with a new generation of surgical techniques
2. Proton Beam Therapy replaces conventional radiation and is far less toxic
3. Pancreatic Cancer Vaccines have already been tested for safety and efficacy in extending lives
4. Biological Response Modifiers are being studied throughout the world for immune modulation
5. UNT only requires financial support to get the RLIP 76 into human clinical trials
6. Bone Marrow Stem Cells have already been proven to restore pancreatic function in diabetics.

The Stowe believes the combination of tested and FDA approved therapies will cure pancreatic cancer. That is the job of the Stowe Foundation and requires the large outcome based studies. We are the only ones doing this work.  We can only use technology that has been vetted by the FDA.

In the field of cancer, the State of Texas will provide Texas Research Scientists with $1.00 for every $0.50 (50 cents) the Stowe Foundation provides the Research Associates.  Hence the Stowe Foundation will support the work on Pancreatic Cancer at the UNT Health Science Center in Fort Worth, UT Southwest Medical School in Dallas, JPS and Baylor Hospitals in Fort Worth, Parkland and Baylor Hospitals in Dallas and the VA in both cities.

The Stowe Foundation is actively conducting a capital campaign to raise the research dollars to conduct the human clinical trials on pancreatic cancer.
